Principles and Philosophy of NAET
NAET (Nambudripad's Allergy Elimination Techniques) is an alternative therapy that claims to treat allergies and sensitivities. It was developed by Dr. Devi S. Nambudripad in 1983. The technique combines elements from acupuncture, kinesiology, chiropractic, and nutrition to identify and eliminate allergies.
NAET operates on the belief that allergies are rooted in energy imbalances in the body. The technique combines elements of Eastern and Western medical practices, drawing from acupuncture, chiropractic adjustments, applied kinesiology (muscle testing), and nutritional counseling.
Dr. Devi S. Nambudripad proposed that allergic reactions occur due to an interference in the body’s electromagnetic field caused by certain substances. By restoring this energy balance, NAET practitioners believe they can eliminate allergic responses.
Core Techniques in NAET:
1. Muscle Testing: Muscle testing, or applied kinesiology, is the primary diagnostic tool in NAET. The practitioner tests the strength of a muscle while the patient is exposed to a potential allergen. If the muscle becomes weak, it is interpreted as the body showing sensitivity to the substance.
2. Desensitization Process: After identifying sensitivities, the NAET process involves the patient holding a vial containing the allergen while the practitioner stimulates acupuncture points, typically along the spine and various meridian points. This stimulation can be done using acupressure, acupuncture needles, or an electrical device.
3. Treatment Protocol:
The treatment is intended to reprogram the body to recognize the allergen as harmless. During a session, the patient holds the substance and undergoes a series of pressure point stimulations.
Once the treatment is complete, the patient is usually advised to avoid the substance for 25 hours, allowing the body to integrate the new information.
What NAET Claims to Treat:
NAET proponents claim that the technique can help alleviate or even completely resolve not just allergies, but a wide array of health problems attributed to allergic reactions. These can include:
Food allergies and intolerances (e.g., gluten or dairy)
Environmental allergies (e.g., pollen, dust, or chemicals)
Emotional issues like anxiety or depression, attributed to energy imbalances
Chronic conditions like migraines, digestive problems, asthma, joint pain, and even skin conditions
NAET Treatment Plan:
A typical NAET treatment plan involves multiple sessions, as it is believed that the body can only be desensitized to one allergen at a time. Each session focuses on a specific allergen, starting with basic allergens like eggs, milk, and essential nutrients. As the treatment progresses, more complex substances are targeted.
